Dressage at Blue Goose

We went to the dressage show at Blue Goose Stables yesterday. Kymmy, Scout , Amy Heron and I took seven horses. Blue Goose is a very nice show for us because it is only five minutes up the road from our farm and it is a mid-week show.

I rode Evie Dutton's Vanderbild, Ann Laver's Colin and Laurie Cameron's Likely Story.
I was very impressed with all three horses since I had never shown them before.
Vanderbild showed me that he is a great horse for an amateur or a professional: he was so rideable and easy at the show and at the same time he looks very impressive and stands out from the crowd. We won training level 3 with 71%.

Likely Story is also a new horse for me and I really, really enjoy working with this mare. Story is one of these mares that once you get her on your side and you are working with her she will do anything for you. I love mares like that! She did a wonderful test and we won high score at training level and won training level test 2 with 75%.

Colin is Ann Laver's horse. I have been riding Colin for Ann for a few months now. He was a little green and Ann and I decided that he needs some more training before he goes back home. He is a lovely horse and I very much enjoy having him around. Colin won high score at third level and we won the class with 69.8%.

Scout rode Boyd's two young horses from Australia, Ray Price and Wallaroo, at their first show. She showed them in Intro A and they were such good boys and so brave! Ray won with 68% and Wally came second with 64%.

Kymmy rode Elite Pharis in his first second level; Pharis showed again what a great horse he is and he won his first time at second level!!

Amy Heron showed her awesome little mare CeCe for the first time in training level. I am so proud of Amy and Cece. They did such a nice test and scored 65% and finished fourth! The two of them are going to be great!

This weekend we are going back to Morven Park!

Caitlin and Hoku's First Three-Star

At the Jersey Fresh CIC*** Caitlin and Catch a Star ("Hoku") finished ninth against a very competitive field. If you will remember, Hoku sustained serious burns all over her body in the 2011 Memorial Day fire at True Prospect Farm, and in less than a year she has not only returned to competition but moved up to be competitive against some of the best horses and riders in the nation. This pair deserves a round of applause! Here are Caitlin's thoughts from her very first three-star:

Caitlin and Hoku Ready to Tackle Their First CIC*** Cross-Country.

This past weekend Catch a Star " Hoku " and I finished 9th in our first three star at the Jersey Fresh three day event. This was a very important weekend for our spring season because I needed a qualifying score in the CIC *** in order to compete at the Bromont CCI*** in Canada in a few weeks. Hoku and I finished second at Jersey Fresh last year in the CCI ** division, which was the last time I rode Hoku before the barn fire last summer.

The weekend could not have gone any better for our first crack at a three-star. I made lots of small mistakes in our dressage test, but Hoku stayed quiet throughout the test which was a big improvement for us because she can get very wound up in the dressage arena. I can't begin to thank Silva enough for all of the hours she has spent teaching me over the last couple of weeks in preparation for the event. I was very lucky to have her at Jersey coaching Boyd and I on Thursday and Friday.

John Willams built a beautiful cross country course that rode great! I took my time around the course and Hoku jumped around very confidently. Here is a video clip of us at the first water:

I finished the weekend with two down in the show jumping, and both rails were my fault. The show jumping is the hardest phase for us and this was the biggest course Hoku and I have ever been around. Like the cross-country, Hoku jumped very confidently which is what I was after heading towards the CCI at Bromont.

I would not have had a successful weekend with out all of the help from Boyd, Silva, and my super groom mom!

Unfortunately Merging, who was 4th after cross-country in the CCI**, was spun at the jog.

Trading Aces had the only double clear round in the CIC*** show jumping today to finish fourth overall on 58.00. This horse is going to be a superstar!
