Scout's Saturday Morning Dressage at Devon Update

Silva and Trading Aces (Oscar) in the Dixon Oval
Two days and countless outfit changes later, there is still no word from Deb. There are also many more dominating performances to discuss. Bear with me here because Windurra had a lot of horses competing, and organization is not a highlight for my brain.

Silva and Boyd with the multi-talented Oscar
On Thursday, Silva rode Zoran and Trading Aces to 2nd and 4th in the 4th level, and Zoran again on Friday put in another top-notch performance.

Zoran

Gracia and Colin also put in a great test, only to be topped by her BEAUTIFUL test with Colin on Friday night. It was her first time doing 4th level, at Devon, and managing to place well in the top 10 against well-known riders in a huuuge class is something to be truly proud of.

Silva and Duvent also rode 4th level on Thursday, crushing the competition and grabbing the big win, just to do it again on Friday with an even more amazing test.

Benny getting some love
Benny, another one of Melinda and Larry's incredible horses, had similar results, ending up in the top three in what I am pretty sure is the biggest 5-year-old class ever to happen anywhere.

Benny
Kymmy and Hot Date had incredible performances both Thursday and and Friday. She rode like a true professional out there and has one of the most exciting up and coming horses around. This shows in her top 4 placing against dozens of well known horse and rider pairs. Congrats Kymbo, your success is really inspiring, and something to look up to.

The Cha was also incredible, coming in 6th out of 43 horses with a 68%. She set the bar since she was unfortunately first to go. Silva and Rosa Cha are a truly incredible. I want
spot in the order of go! to be them when I grow up. Stay tuned to their win today...
much better spot in the order of go!

Team Windurra...it takes a village...
Michelle also rode two stunning tests putting up there with the top contenders, continuing my realization that we somehow have managed to form an unstoppable group of juggernaut horses and riders.

Something else happened on Friday that was a bit disappointing.. you see, Kymmy was needed to collect Silva's awards since Silva was competing during the ceremony, and word around the block is Kymmy decided to opt out of the victory lap...on foot. That lap was well earned Kymberly Pullen, and more importantly I was looking forward to watching you canter around the Dixon Oval without a horse under you! Just imagine it: ribbons flowing elegantly from your belt loops while you held imaginary reins and acted slightly spooky because of the crowd going wild. It would have been magical...lol.

Trading Aces Featured in The Chronicle of the Horse

Trading Aces Takes His Turn At Devon

While many upper level event horses hone their flatwork skills at schooling shows, Dressage At Devon is a more unusual place to practice that phase. But Boyd Martin’s four-star mount Trading Aces competed in the Dixon Oval with Silva Martin, Boyd’s wife, tonight. The horse scored a 66.14 percent to finish fourth in a large fourth level test of choice class. Silva also took second in the class aboard Zoran.
Silva and “Oscar” qualified for Devon earlier in the season, while Boyd was out of commission after surgery on his ankle.
“Silva obviously helps me a lot with his dressage,” said Boyd. “This is a great show with lots of atmosphere, and he’d be doing dressage anyway, so we figured he should come out and do a test.”

Scout's Thursday Morning Update from Dressage at Devon

Though my aspirations lie with riding, not writing, I have somehow found myself in the blogging hot seat once again. So bear with me here.

The first two days of Devon have been a smashing success. Though its just hasn't been the same without Deb McD here, Silva and the Windurra team are still powering through the competition. Breeders Melinda and Larry had their incredibly talented horses. Duvent (10yo), Benefactor (5yo), and Danke Shoene (3) landed in the TOP 3 out of what seemed to be hundreds of the breeder's groups in the breed show classes, including highly competitive classes such as the produce of dam.

Shoene and Silva also rode to the top six in the huge colts and geldings class for 3 year-olds. Lets remember this is his FIRST SHOW under saddle and he is already on his way to total domination, much like his big brother Benefactor, another one of Melinda's impeccably bred horses who not only became the Champion out of 4 and 5 year old colts, geldings, and stallions on Wednesday, but the highest scoring American bred horse at Devon! Yeah. Buddy.

The eventers also made an appearance for the five year old dressage suitability class, landing Boyd on Scoop, Caitlin on Ray Price, and Sawyer on Wallaroo - they all finished in the top 10. I begrudgingly have to admit this is pretty impressive, albeit slightly embarrassing for us dressage riders being as the eventers were able to stroll through dressage show territory and still leave with armfuls of ribbons. It is particularly exciting since Boyd came in second in the huge class; congrats Boyd, you and your talented mount have the makings of a Grand Prix pair when you have some down time from soaring over monstrous jumps. It's also exciting being as Wally and Ray were bred by Windurra and are turning out to be two extremely talented and promising young horses.

Also, huuuuuge shout out the Cheryl (Sorry if the name is spelled wrong Cheryl, I cant spell worth a damn) for the insane amount of help she has gone out of her way to give us this week. We appreciate you so so much, THANK YOU. And another huge shout out to Gracia and her parents, especially her amazing mom, who has put together, hands down, the most beautiful banner at the competition, thank you so much!

The salad group has arrived FASHIONABLY late.. shocking, I know. More outfit status updates to come.

Oscar's Schedule at Dressage at Devon

Oscar has pulled up well after his run at Plantation. Silva will be competing him at Dressage at Devon Thursday. She will be riding in the 4th level test at 5:16pm
I hope a few of you might get the opportunity to come out and watch him go. I have decided to scratch him from Friday's dressage test at Devon, as this is his gallop day.
