Team Gold at Nations Cup!
Team USA
won the Nations Cup and it was a really cool experience since it was my first US
team! Rosa was a little tense – she’s a
different ride at this level, and it’s a different ballgame with so much
collection in the small tour tests. Still, she was good enough to contribute to
the team effort; with Adrienne Lyle winning the special and Tina Konyot third
today we were fortunate to be on a very strong team.
I got so much help from Debbie and Robert and having them as
coaches is awesome, they are very positive and supportive and make you feel
comfortable in a team situation. It was so exciting to be on the podium – it
felt like a big deal, and I hope the first of many similar experiences! I can’t
thank the syndicate enough for helping Rosa
and I make it to the big leagues. It’s so exciting that I’ve had her for her
whole life and she did so well under so much pressure.
We still have work to do and I’m always hard on myself, but
for her age and her experience level Rosa
couldn’t have done better. I talked do Debbie for a long time after today’s
test and because I have so much quality and cadence and expression in the trot
it’s hard for her to hold it; in the canter she got a little tense and even
though the quality was better, sometimes in the corners we had a little mistake
where she switched behind once or twice.
She still is very young and we are on the right path. I feel
like I understand it and Rosa understands it,
it’s just a matter of putting it all together in a competition ring. It’s a big
venue and the international ring was filled with people in the VIP tent and it
was windy and the flags were going but that didn’t bother her. She’s very
focused; I think she gets tense from the pressure of the work, but she’s very
brave and never spooks at anything. I never have to worry about the environment
which is really nice, that gives me a lot of confidence.
It was so cool being on a team -- and it was a really great
team! It was really nice to meet Adrienne Lyle, she’s a great girl and rode
beautifully, and Tina has been on so many teams and has a lot of experience.
Shawna has been out of competing for a while but she’s excited to be back and
everyone was supporting each other 100%. Usually we are just competing for
ourselves and it was fun to have everyone cheering each other on and supporting
each other. I really enjoyed it.
Rosa has a Freestyle
tomorrow because the top 50% from today have to do the freestyle ,
which is exciting, but she’s pretty tired. There will be a lot of people and I
think it will be fun but I hope she sleeps in a bit tomorrow morning! Some of the
syndicate members are coming tomorrow and I'm looking forward to seeing them.
We don’t have that many weeks left here and I want to get as much help from Debbie
at home and at the shows as I can here, so I’m going to shoot for next week as
well, when I'll compete Rosa at the Palm Beach Derby, also in the small tour.

Eventing Community Welcomes George Morris for Clinic at Boyd Martin's Winter Base, Ilene Boorman's Bridle Creek Farm
For Immediate Release
Phelps Media Group, Inc.
Aiken, SC - February 19, 2014 - Sometimes equestrian disciplines have a hard time sharing their worlds, but in Eventing where there are three aspects, they eagerly welcome the insight of different trainers. Legendary horseman and coach George Morris is well known in both the Show Jumping and Eventing communities, and on February 24-25, 2014 he will travel to Aiken, SC to teach at Boyd Martin's winter base of operations, Ilene Boorman's Bridle Creek Farm. Riders and auditors will have the opportunity to learn from the best in the business.
After retiring as Chef d'Equipe of the United States Show Jumping Team, Morris has set his sights on developing the future of the sport by conducting clinics around the world. Focusing on helping riders develop correct form and function, Morris has often been referred to as the founding father of hunt seat equitation. Second to none, his teachings, technique and style are revered around the world. Over the course of his career, Morris has been highly successful as a rider, coach, clinician, author and judge.
"A group of Eventing riders based in Aiken, including three members from the London Olympic Team, will be participating in the clinic," explained Martin. "I think George will be focusing on course analysis, which sometimes the Eventing riders struggle with. Without question, George is one of the greatest equestrian coaches in history, and we are honored that he is coming to teach us. "
While the spots for the clinics filled up immediately, auditor positions are still available to gain knowledge from the esteemed Morris through observation, and a waiting list is available for riders should a spot become available. Auditor spots are $60 each, and Martin encourages all the Eventing enthusiasts around Aiken to come and watch the master at work.
The daily clinic schedule will begin with the first group of advanced riders at 9:00 a.m., followed by intermediate riders at 11:00 a.m. The final group of green horses will commence at 2:00 p.m. Fernanda Kellogg will be hosting a reception on Monday, February 24, at Fox Frolic Farm beginning at 4:30pm. PEDIGREE
SBF Eowyn, also known as Wynnie, is the ideal horse for a professional, young rider or adult amateur looking to be extremely competitive in whatever event they enter. She is very well bred, fathered by the Dutch super-sire, Riverman. She is the sister to SBF Cortez, who is currently competing at Intermediate level.
Wynnie is a lovely, soft mover and is extremely rideable and trainable for the dressage; she received a 25.8 at her first event. She is a scopey, careful jumper with a lovely gallop that only needs to be ridden in the softest of snaffles. In winter 2014, Wynnie won her first event at Full Gallop Farm, finishing on her dressage score of 25.8, and placed second at Paradise Farm, finishing on her dressage score of 32.
This is an exciting opportunity to purchase a very special horse that will bring you up the levels while winning; rarely is a horse of this quality offered for sale.
