Balustree Silver Lining SOLD

We’re proud to announce that Balustree Silver Lining, AKA "Herbert", has been sold to one of Sally Cousins’ students in Pennsylvania. Herbert has been with us, thanks to Ashley Andrews of Millbrook, NY, for the past three months. Both Caitlin and I have competed Herbert in four or five horse trials and he was very successful. We wish his new owner all the best and thank Ashley for placing him with us while we marketed him.

Final Show in Florida 2015

It was awesome to finish off the winter season this past weekend with Stately scoring a 72.5% in the I-1 Freestyle! We are thrilled with his progress!




Stately has always been our “problem child” and Faye Woolfe has been an amazing owner. This weekend she ensured that  Stately and his groom Jerusha were perfectly taken care of. Unfortunately Faye couldn’t be there this weekend but she made sure that her friend and our big supporter Gloria Callen brought her walking shoes to walk Stately around for hours!

 It’s been a great winter season with all the horses, especially my CDI horses. A huge thank you to all my owners/supporters for making this possible for me. I couldn’t do it with out them. It’s great to be back in the ring after a tough year and it’s so encouraging to have all the support around me.

Another thank you to my sponsors for keeping all my horses looking and feeling great. Stubben has made a huge effort to keep the horses comfortable with their saddles and bridles. Ariat, Charles Owen, and Middy N’ Me keep me and the horses in high fashion. SmartPak not only supplies us with their incredible supplements but is always there to send us anything we need! And of course Purina keeps our horses well-fed and looking in tip top shape.

Jerusha and I are on our way home while Jessie waits for the shipper to load the rest of the horses. Devon is at home and has been a HUGE help taking care of the horses there and preparing everything for our return. I am looking forward to seeing my students/friends at home and getting back into a rhythm with them! It was really a great season and Jerusha and Jessie worked so hard without any full days off. I am so impressed with how they held up.There was one afternoon that we took off to go to West Palm Beach and the girls enjoyed the beach by falling asleep to the sound of the waves.

  I have very much enjoyed working with Michelle Folden and Debbie Stanitski again this year. They had some great success this season and it’s always a blast hanging with Michelle and her crew.

A New Career for Trading Aces

After winning the $50,000 Wellington Eventing Showcase, Trading Aces stayed on in Florida with Marcia Kulak, who put him in training and transformed the world-class eventer into an equitation horse. While Oscar has always shown a lot of talent, he simply lacks the endurance to be successful in upper-level eventing. We hope that he will have a happy and successful future with his new rider, Alexandra Pielet, in the junior ranks.

Aiken Masterclass a Roaring Success

Yesterday evening’s Masterclass was a roaring success at Stable View Farm. Both Phillip and I were a little bit nervous and unprepared going into the evening but thanks to a great group of supporters I think we managed to pull off an awesome show. Dom Schramm was the key to keeping everyone entertained all night as our MC and he had music playing during all the quiet moments. 

The horses Phillip and I demonstrated on were fantastic. Basically we decided to showcase some of the big-time horses like Shamwari and Mr. Medicott as well as some of our younger horses like Icabad Crane. We wanted to make the evening about how we train the horses at home and explain different exercises that we utilize. A few of the young horses got quite wild but that gave us the opportunity to explain to spectators how we deal with those situations and what we do when things don't go as planned.

The evening was capped off with the legendary Neville Bardos meeting the spectators. He was out for about an hour eating carrots and getting photos with his adoring fans, living the good life.

I think last night exceeded our expectations. We had around 350 people there and all the money earned - it looks like around $15,000 - went straight to charity. I have to give a huge shout-out to Stable View who not only provided a fantastic facility with lighted indoor and sound system; they also had a full-on bar for everyone to enjoy, and on top of all that they are going to match the amount of money generated last night with a matching contribution. I must say I’m very impressed.

New Mushroom Compost

A big thanks to Jamie Hicks of Hicks Brothers for spreading a thin layer of mushroom compost over our cross-country schooling course in Pennsylvania. One of our goals this year is to have fabulous footing for all the horses in training.

Jamie is also in charge of footing for Plantation Field horse trials and is donating a lot of his time and effort to spreading mushroom compost, seeding, mowing and aerating the footing at Plantation. I would urge anyone looking for quality hay or straw to consider buying it from Hicks Brothers as a thank you for their efforts in supporting the sport of eventing.
