Fitch's Corner
Once again Fitch’s Corner Horse Trials in Millbrook, NY proved to be the ultimate lower-level event of the year. Without question the event organizers provide a world-class event for the lower-levels. It was mind blowing, the quality of everything that Fernanda and Kirk put on. The dressage footing felt like the fairway at Augusta, the cross-country was reminiscent of a mini-Rolex Kentucky and the challenging show jumping course was sensational, and took place in front of a packed marquis with patrons enjoying a first-class luncheon. This year’s Saturday evening party theme was the Chinese Year of the Horse which provided some very entertaining costumes!
A big thanks to Bonnie Stedt, who housed myself and my staff for the weekend. Like Fernanda and Kirk, Bonnie has been one of the most generous supporters over the years of both Silva and myself.
All of the horses went very, very well. Derek diGrazia and Eric Bull have definitely built a first-rate course that really sorted the field out.
Unfortunately Silva did not come to this event but I am pleased to report she is back riding now. For the first time since early this year she is back to schooling Shamwari for me. Obviously my dressage performance has been at a huge disadvantage this year without Silva schooling my horses for me and I am certain my scores will improve with my secret weapon back in action.
