"Big Mike" Barisone Jets in for Olympic Preparations

I would like to thank members of the Otis Barbotiere Syndicate who rallied together to send Michael Barisone over to England for a second time.  "Big Mike" trains both Silva and me in the art of dressage back home in the States.

He was here for four days working with me on all my horses here in the Olympic training camp.  The first two days he spent working on the horses' engagement and connection, then on days three and four, we started performing the four-star test that will be ridden at the Games.

Otis with groom Lindsey Taylor

Linda Zang is also over here, and judged the test.  We then did a video review with Michael and Linda, looking at parts of the test that can be improved.  All in all, the horses are going well.  The preparation is looking good for the big one in a couple of weeks.

UPDATE ON SALES HORSE - WARANGA

If you are looking for an upper level prospect, Waranga is a MUST SEE! Caitlin and Waranga finished on a beautiful dressage test of 26.5 placing 2nd in a large Open Novice division last weekend at the Md. Horse Trials. His show jump round was flawless and he showed unlimited scope through the course. Waranga looked bold as he skipped around the Novice XC course. There is no doubt that he will be someone's horse of a lifetime!  He also placed 1st at Waradaca finishing on his dressage score of a 24.8!!

Once again here is his sales information.  Boyd is  NAME: Waranga W
SEX: Gelding
COLOUR: Grey
HEIGHT: 16.2hh
DATE OF BIRTH: December 2008
COUNTY OF BIRTH: Australia

Please call CAITLAN : 610 316 7318 to set up an appointment to see this fabulous young horse!

Waranga is a very promising young horse who seems to be getting better and better with each training ride. Boyd and Silva bred him on the family farm in Australia and imported him to the United States in 2010 in partnership with long time supporter, Amy Lindgren.

Warranga's sire, Copebella Visage is a grand prix French show jumping stallion, and his mother is by Brilliant Invader (who also sired Olympic champion Reddy Teddy). Waranga is an extremely atheletic type, being about 65% Thoroughbred.

In an effort to raise funds to take 4 horses to England, Boyd and Amy have made the difficult decision to sell this talented young horse.  PRICE REDUCED TO $50K!!

Dressage Boot Camp for Boyd's Young Horses

While I am away getting drenched in the rain here in England, Silva and the girls have been making serious ground in the dressage with the younger horses.  I am very lucky to have an awesome team of riders that can improve the horses whilst I am gone.

A couple of the horses that look promising for the future are Anne Hennessey's New Cadet and The Trading Aces Syndicate's, Trading Aces.  Both horses are great movers that have a wonderful action.

New Cadet, or Caddy, is an off the track Thoroughbred that is a super jumper.  He has done a handful of prelims and the dressage has been the weaker phase in his weekends thus far.  Silva and Caitlin have been working on improving the connection from the leg to hand and his straightness.

Trading Aces, or Oscar, is a little further on in his career, just coming off his first three star at Bromont. His weakest part of the test is the changes, which used to resemble his jumping action: flamboyant.  As you can see, the bride is starting to give him an understanding of it all.

A big thank you must go to the whole team back at home!

Cheers,

Boyd

Sara Gumbiner's Update from Maryland Horse Trials

While Boyd and Lindsey are in England, Caitlin, Beau, Jen and I are holding down the fort. This past weekend Caitlin and I traveled to Maryland HT at Loch Moy Farm and it was HOT! The only saving grace was the ingenious cooling tent for the horses after cross-country. Not only was it the only reason our horses didn't pass out from heat stroke but it gave the event a 3-day feel with huge troughs of ice water and multiple industrial-sized fans. So a big thanks to everybody at Loch Moy!!

Caitlin and Jen endured the hottest of the two days on Saturday with Fernanda's Partyboy and Denise and Pierre's SBF Cortez in the Open Training division. It was the first time Caitlin competed Partyboy and placed in 5th, finishing on his dressage score. She looks in good form to move up to Prelim at her next competition. SBF Cortez made a good effort finishing in 9th with a double clear XC round in the overwhelming heat. Both horses are impeccably fit and cooled off quickly after their stellar rounds.

Sunday was an important outing for Polaris and me. It seems that the second Prelim for a horse really does prove if a horse can officially be considered a Prelim contender...well he rocked around that course like he's been doing it for years. He was sooo good! We started with a 32.7 despite a small bobble in our right counter canter loop which landed me tied for third. We took the lead after show jumping with 1 time penalty - due to the hard ground, I decided to take it easy on Larry and came in a little slow, costing us the lead by .5 penalties. A big thank you to Ann Nawn, (owner of Polaris) for all of the support from her and her team. I can't wait to see how far we will go!

At 95 degrees, Caitlin found Sunday's weather a relief compared to the 104 degrees that she endured on Saturday. Saturday was a big day for her because she was able to bring out her young Irish horse, Lux Like Fernhill, for the first time since Aiken. With an impressive show jumping round and a perfect cross-country run, Lux finished in 3rd in a competitive Open Novice division.

If you are looking for an upper level prospect, Waranga is a MUST SEE! Caitlin and Waranga finished on a beautiful dressage test of 26.5 placing 2nd in a large Open Novice division. His show jump round was flawless and he showed unlimited scope through the course. Waranga looked bold as he skipped around the Novice XC course. There is no doubt that he will be someone's horse of a lifetime!

Gallops in England

All three geldings are doing well here in England.  We galloped the all on Saturday; here's a video of Otis and Remi doing the hill gallop on their third time.

Michael Barisone lands on Tuesday to help me tune up my dressage.

Cheers,

Boyd

Amy Heron and Constantina RRS at Blue Goose Dressage

Here is the video of Amy Heron riding Constantina RRS at Blue Goose on July Fourth.

I am very very proud of Amy and little Cece on doing so great at Blue Goose. They scored 74.2% in training level test 2 and are now qualified to compete at the BLM championships at the end of the year.

Amy bought Cece from Melinda Walton and Larry Smith about a year ago. Like all the horses that Melinda and Larry breed, Cece is just the perfect little horse and just right for Amy.
Cece lives at my place and I train her when Amy is not riding. Amy comes for regular lessons and has been working very hard to develop a good partnership with Cece. Now that the two of them have gotten to know each other better over the last few months, they are unstoppable!

Go Cece and Amy!!! They will go a long way together!!!
