The Ups and Downs of Rolex Cross-Country

Oscar made a valiant effort at his first four-star, but Boyd chose to call it a day after a stop six fences from home. There will be plenty of opportunities for this talented young horse to show the world what he's made of. They're in good company, with the overnight leader William Fox-Pitt also retiring Chilli Morning. Meanwhile, Caitlin and Hoku had a great run at their first four-star and are currently in 24th place with an unfortunate stop midway around the course. Erin Sylvester and No Boundaries also fought a good fight finish the course and stay in the action. Tomorrow should be an exciting day with Andrew Nicholson defending the lead with William Fox-Pitt hot on his heels.

  1. I believe the world already saw what Oscar is made of. He is gorgeous, extremely talented and seemed perfectly conditioned. However, as young horses often do, the excitement made him use some of the energy that is absolutely necessary for a 4* effort. I am glad I had a chance to see him. Thank you.
Hoku looked like a pro. Of course she had the amazing Caitlin to guide her. Their unfortunate stop was nothing more than a dot in their otherwise flawless run -they even made time! They looked beautiful. Good luck tomorrow.

  2. If Oscar ever doesn't want to be a 4* horse he should convert to high performance hunters. He's one of the few out there whose jump style is classically correct.

  3. Actually, Boyd and Oscar were 2(not 6) fences from home. Oscar looked deflated between the 2 HP-barns at fence 26; so retiring was the right thing to do to take care of the horse and save him for another (of many to come) day.
