A note from the Johnsons:

Mark Johnson of Ringmasters met Boyd and Silva Martin in spring of 2011 when he did the site and base work for Silva’s dressage arena at the couple’s new farm in Cochranville.  Mark, who naturally meets all kinds of people in the horse world in the course of his profession, was immediately taken with Boyd and Silva due to their winning personalities, upbeat spirit, and incredible discipline and dedication to training and competing with their horses.

Then on Memorial Day weekend, the tragic fire struck True Prospect Farm, claiming the lives of six of Boyd’s top competition horses. Thankfully, staff members at True Prospect, who tried valiantly to save the horses, recovered from their injuries. 

A couple of months later, Mark was helping the Martins out, as hundreds of people did in so many ways after the tragedy. He was building a pad for portable stabling facilities at the farm and brought his son Chris, then a high school senior, along to work with him. Along with Boyd, Chris met Neville Bardos, the last horse pulled from the horrific fire, and was amazed not only by how well the game little chestnut was recovering from burns and lung damage, but also the entire story of his checkered past. 

After learning from Mark that Chris was an aspiring artist, in his typical enthusiastic manner, Boyd called him and asked him to paint Neville. Ironically, just a couple of days earlier Chris’s art teacher had told him that for his next independent study project she wanted him to reach outside of his comfort zone and paint something totally different. Although he grew up surrounded by horses, Chris had never had a desire to paint them. He felt this was definitely a sign.

The original oil painting, which measures 24” x 48”, was presented to Boyd and Silva. A limited edition of 300 numbered and signed 12” x 24” prints are being offered at $90 each, which includes shipping and handling within the U.S. The first 100 will also be signed by Boyd. 

Neville recovered remarkably; to the point where less than six months later he not only competed at Burghley  CCI****, but finished 7^th!  However, he still requires some therapy and special care. A portion from the sale of the prints will be donated to Neville’s ongoing therapy.

Chris is currently a freshman at Savannah College of Art & Design and continues to share through his painting and the message – “Real Art for Real People.”

Grand Unveiling at New Bolton Center

We were so happy to be part of the unveiling ceremony at New Bolton Center last Wednesday night. Through the generous support of Ilona English and Saly Glassman, New Bolton was able to realize their dream of building a new beautiful indoor facility which will be used to evaluate horses on the ground and under tack.  This all weather facility will really improve the ability of their staff to work with horses in for evaluation, and the finished product is gorgeous!

Neville and Hoku were asked to be guests of honor for the ribbon cutting ceremony, and we were so happy to attend after New Bolton's wonderful care and dedication to our horses after last year's fire. Both Neville and Hoku would have never made their astonishing recoveries if it had not been for the brilliant staff at New Bolton Center.

Neville and Hoku arrived safely and in style, braving the blustery nor'easter weather comfortably in the Theault Morpheus!

Wakefield is a beautiful looking 16.2 English thoroughbred gelding. Imported from Europe in January 2012, Wakefield has had a sensational eventing career here in the states. He has had a flawless record as a young horse, competing at the novice and training level competitions all over the east coast. To date, he has never had a XC jumping penalty and is rarely out of the placings.

He has a wonderful temperament, along with a huge amount of natural ability. In the dressage, he has soft, scopey movement, and always puts in a very smart test. Along with that, he has a proper jump that shows good form and technique over all fences.

Great finish to the Dressage Season!

Duvent

We had a great finish of the season at GAIG Championships today! Stately won the Prix St. George AGAIN! I am so excited about all that is to come with my friend Stately - he is awesome!

I could not be prouder of Duvent for how he finished his season. He has been very consistent and always scores in the 70's. He was reserve Champion today with 70%.

Zoran held his own in his first third levels and did another very nice test today to win with 68%.

Elite Pharis

 Elite Pharis also won his third level test again today with 68%. He really is a very nice and honest horse.

Kymmy and Markie

Kymmy and Markie had a lovely PSG test today to finish third in the class!

 

Gracia and Dia

Gracia and Dia finished fourth in the Young Rider training level Championships!

I would like to thank all the wonderful people that support me.  I have the most wonderful horses and owners and a great team around me . I feel very lucky! I could not do what I do without those people.

Great Friday at the GAIG Championships!

Stately

Stately

Today was a pretty exciting day for me because Stately and I did our first Prix St George test together.  Stately was his usual amazing self although he was still a little green. I was so happy that we won, but even happier with our score of 74.6%. It was so much fun to have his owner Faye here for our first step into FEI!

Zoran

Zoran moved up to third level today and did a great test. Bonnie and I are very excited about him! He is going to be a very special horse. We won today with 69%.

Benny

Benny and I showed in the Region 1 GAIG Championships today. We have to keep reminding ourselves that Benny is only 4 years old. He was truly amazing and we won with 75.4%. Melinda was here to cheer us on!

Duvent had the warm up class for his Championships today. I think today was the most quiet test we ever did! I think he might be settling down! ( I hope I did not jinx myself) We won fourth level with 69%.

Pharis

Elite Pharis did a very nice test in third level today and we win with 66%. Pharis has come a very long way; this time last year he was green at training level!

Gracia and Dia had a nice test in their warm up class today and won with 67%.

Kymmy and Markie showed in the open Prix St George Championships today. They had a very nice test in an extremely competitive class and finished ninth.

Our Attwood Arena Withstood the Storm Perfectly!

Thanks Attwood Equestrian Services for our wonderful arena, which held up perfectly through the storm. The only damage was a broken mirror at the end of the ring, but that is easily replaced. Here's a photo of Stately having a school this morning, after we had about half a foot of rain.

Edwin from Attwood sent us an email on how to prepare the arena before the storm - its amazing how they're always looking after us! He suggested that we roll the arena so the water would just roll off, and it worked great. Edwin is the best!
